You may have heard this term thrown around a lot but what exactly is a hallway exercise? Simple, it’s an exercise that can be done in a hallway. No really, that’s all it means.
Many people workout at home; they don’t want to go to a commercial gym or they are looking for something quick to do at the beginning of the day.
Hallway exercises can be done in any house or apartment building. They can be done with weights or just on your own. The reason you need a hallway is the space.
If you live in a cramped apartment or house and still want to get a workout at home a hallway exercise routine can revitalize your day. Just do a couple sets of a few exercises and you will be ready to hit the day strong.
There are quite a few types of exercises that can be done in a hallway. Think walking lunges or side squats. One of the things that makes a hallway exercise so easy to track is you can count each lap as a rep.
This is especially cool with lunges because the farther your step, the less amount of actual lunges. However, the larger your step the deeper the lunge.
Do you see how you can’t really cheat yourself? That’s a valuable trick for those of us who look for corners to cut!
You can also do any other stationary type exercise in a hallway. Put a pull up in a door way and you can do pull ups and dips all day long. Or, just do your sit ups or push ups in a hallway. Of course, be mindful of neighbors if you are using a public hallway.
For lunges and side squats add something extra. Use your dumbbells to do a shoulder press with each lunge or squat. That can really help you burn the most amount of calories in the shortest amount of time.
Not to mention increase your heart rate pretty fast while you are pumping that iron!
In reality, you can do any hallway exercise in any other space. The reason it is called a hallway exercise is because for most people, the hallway is the longest stretch of floor in their home. Plus, even in the most cluttered of homes the hallway has a clear space.
So the next time somebody throws out hallway exercise like the newest thing, just remember that the definition is simple, but the sweat is real! Make use of that empty space and put your body to work!
