For those of you stuck inside because of bad weather or kids around, there are plenty of ways to break a sweat while still around the house. A little creativity can go a long way to burning those much needed calories.
Here are some ways to incorporate a home fitness routine.
First consider all that your home has to offer. Those aren’t stairs, it’s a stair machine home edition!
Warm up around the ‘lobby’, otherwise known as your living room for a few minutes then truck it up and down the stairs for a great workout. Depending on the amount of steps you could do 3-5 reps up and down to get a real sweat going.
Remember to slow your movements and catch your breath a little as you come down the steps. Also, depending on the width and material of the stairs use handrails. If it is shallow steps and hardwood floor for example, never do your stair climbing in socks!
Now onto the beauty of laundry. Everyone has laundry, many of us have loads and loads of it. Next time consider the laundry basket as a fabulous free weight.
You can lift it up and down in front of you. You can do side steps while holding your arms outstretch holding the basket. You can even get down on the floor and use it for a chess press. How’s that for working with what you have.
The essence of a great home fitness routine is tiny bursts of energy in your everyday life.
This next move will not work for the devout Tivo person. However, if you refuse to utilize the forward button, you too can bask in the goodness of the next home fitness routine.
Have you guessed? Commercials! That’s right. Every 5-8 minutes your show is going to commercial for just over 2 minutes. This is great because you can do mindless activity while watching your show and focus on some other moves during the breaks.
For example, bicep curls or lunges while the show is on and crunches when the show goes off. Remember not to strain your neck. Just another reason crunches or other floor exercises are better done during commercials. You don’t want to strain your neck to see the show.
The best move yet. A personal favorite home fitness routine. Dishes! Everybody does them. Sometimes with the right combination of pan and baked on grease your arms certainly get a workout.
What about your legs? No reason to just stand in front of the sink, walk in place.
Some people lift dishes or do other things, feel free to find what works best for you. To me, just walking in place keeps my blood moving. Plus, it’s good to think about the calories you just ate, might make you walk a bit faster!
Home fitness routines can change your whole outlook. Instead of blocking off precious time for the gym or a DVD you can get some calories burned right now.
Shaving off excess calories while tightening up those you consume will give those love handles a double whammy. Look for other ways you can utilize what you already have!
